How these companies got their name.
Apple Computers
It was the favourite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn't
suggest a better name by 5 O'clock.
CISCO
It is not an acronym as popularly believed. It is short for San Francisco.
Compaq
This name was formed by using COMp, for computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object.
Corel
The name was derived from the founder's name Dr.Michael Cowpland. It stands for COwpland REsearch Laboratory.
Google
The name started as a joke boasting about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders - Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google'
Hotmail
Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective uppercasing.
Hewlett Packard
Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

The world's top 10 spamming countries.
The world's top 10 spamming countries account for 55 per cent of the total global spam volume, says Secure Computing, a public company that provides enterprise security solution, in its Internet Threats Report.
Spam is the unwanted e-mail messages that you find in your mail box. It is primarily electronic junk mail sent to your e-mail account or even your cellphone.
Spammers are continuing to use pop culture and current events (US elections, Olympics, etc) to entice end users into responding or clicking on links whose sole purpose is to download malware.
So which countries are the world's biggest spammers?
10. South Korea, 2.87%
South Korea sends slightly less spam than India, but with a contribution of 2.87 per cent to global spam it is the world's 10th largest spammer.
9. India, 2.99%
India is one of the top 10 spammers in the world and it accounts for 2.99 per cent of global spam.
The country is the world's 9th largest spammer, and as its Internet infrastructure improves with rising prosperity the amount of spam or unsolicited e-mails emerging from India too is likely to multiply.
8. Colombia, 3.09%
Colombia takes the 8th spot amongst the world's biggest spammers and accounts for per cent of global spam.
Here's how to curb spamming:
When you send e-mails to many people at the same time, use the BCC (blind copy) field so that the recipients are unable to see the other addresses. This also helps curb spamming.
The government too can help curb spam by enacting legislation that punishes offenders.
Don't give out your e-mail ID on instant messengers, chat rooms, et cetera.
7. Great Britain, 3.37%
Great Britain accounts for per cent of global spam and is ranked 7th largest spammer.
Tips to be secure:
Being aware of spam and of ways to secure yourself too helps curb the menace.
You should never buy anything through an unsolicited e-mail. By buying through such messages, you help keep such business economically viable.
Instantly delete unsolicited e-mails, for such messages can also harm your machine by spreading viruses or worms.
6. China, 3.49%
China ranks 6th among the The world's top 10 spammers and accounts for per cent of global spam.
More ways to fight spam:
Upgrading your Internet security to ensure that spammers can't send spam via your computer.
Never reply to a spam message and never click on any links, especially 'unsubscribe' links in such messages because then you give yourself away as a real user and thus leave yourself open to be spammed even more.
5. Italy, 4.32%
Italy, the world's 5th largest spammer, accounts for per cent of global spam.
How to secure yourself from spam:
Various methods to save yourself from incoming spam exist. These include:
Using spam-filtering software. Trend Micro, Symantec, Computer Associates, Sophos (Satcom), McAfee, Netscreen, Prime Infotec, GajShield Infotech and Websense provide specialised anti-spam solutions in the Indian market.
A spam filter is a piece of software that sorts incoming e-mail messages and blocks those that it thinks are spam. While filtering can be very useful, it's not perfect as sometimes filters fail to identify spam-and they mistakenly block a genuine, non-spam message. Adjusting the filter settings can help minimise these risks. To prevent this one can also choose to direct spam into a special folder set aside for reviewing all messages that the software filter tags as spam.
4. Brazil, 5.29%
Brazil, with per cent of global spam, ranks 4th in the world.
Spammers continue to use pop culture and current events like the Olympics or US elections to lure users into responding or clicking on links whose sole purpose is to download malware.
3. Turkey, 6.51%
Turkey ranks number 3 in the world when it comes to spamming. It accounts for per cent of global spam.
Among the types of spam, male enhancement, product replica, prescription drugs, gambling, pornography, debt job offer, phishing were the major contronutors.
2. Russia, 6.71%
Over 6.7 per cent of global spam emerges from Russia, making it the world's second largest spammer.
The Secure Research report says that there was a 45 per cent increase in the average number of porn sites found daily since January 2008.
50 pre cent of all Web sites' content is now in non-English languages, and this too is adding to the growing spam volume.
1. United States, 16.56%
The United States is the world's largest spammer and accounts for more than 16.5 per cent of global spam.
Spam is up 280% from last year (at this time). This year's peak on spam volume was March 27 at 185 billion spam messages. Since March we have seen spam steadily decrease.

Amazing Rock in Saudi Arabia Believe It Or or not.
A huge rock in a village of Al-Hassa region, SAUDI ARABIA raises 11 cms from the ground level once in a year during the month of April and stays elevated for about 30 minutes!!!
They say that 17 years ago, one Mujahid was shot dead behind this rock as he was hidden there. This encounter happened in the month of April 1989. You can see the fresh blood stains on the rock. Most surprisingly, when the rock raises from the ground, these stains become darker, fresher and wet. Local residents tried to wipe off the stains several times, but after some time it appears again on the rock automatically...
Isn't it astounding?

Fastest Text Messaging While Skydiving World Record Set by Samsung Mobile.
Samsung Telecommunications America, (Samsung Mobile) a leading mobile phone distributor in the U.S., attempted to establish the Guinness World Record for "Fastest Text Messaging While Skydiving." A team of professional skydivers text messaged while freefalling from 12,000 feet outside the Los Angeles city limits at the Samsung Mobile XTREME TEXTING event. The team of 10 skydivers used a variety of Samsung Mobile messaging phones during this challenge, including the Samsung Propel™, Samsung Gravity™, Samsung Rant™, Samsung Alias™ and Samsung Messager™. Samsung Mobile created XTREME TEXTING as a unique way to promote its new lineup of text messaging phones.
The challenge was not easy. The high-flying daredevils had to accurately text message the phrase:
"The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human." The skydivers had only one minute to text message the phrase while freefalling before pulling their parachutes and gliding to the ground.
Once all 10 skydivers were safe on the ground and their phones were checked for accuracy, the video shot by two aerial videographers and two additional videographers on the ground was sent to Guinness World Records® in London for official judging.
"Fastest Text Messaging While Skydiving" will be a new entry into Guinness World Records database if successfully attempted. It will join the current record for "Fastest Text Message" currently held by Jeremy Sng Gim (Singapore), who typed the prescribed 160-character phrase on his mobile phone in 41.40 seconds on February 24, 2008.
About the Samsung Mobile phones used in this event:
Samsung Propel™ – Stylish, vertical slider phone with full QWERTY keyboard, multiple messaging options and video share. Available in four different vibrant colors.
Samsung Gravity™ – Colorful horizontal slider packed with full QWERTY keyboard, multiple Instant Messaging options and Web surfing access.
Samsung Rant™ – Smooth horizontal slider with full QWERTY keyboard, GPS navigation and MP3 player. Available in three different colors, including purple.

Greatest Rail Journey London to Dhaka via Delhi in 23 days.
In what would be the world's greatest rail journey, a new rail link, to be opened later this year, will enable one to undertake a 23-day journey by train from London to Dhaka via New Delhi.
The 7000-mile Trans-Asia railway network will follow one of the old Silk Roads through Istanbul, Tehran, Lahore and Delhi. The world's "greatest railway journey" will be longer than the Trans-Siberian railway, which spans 5772 miles, reported the Times Online.
India has already earmarked 90 million pounds to extend its vast rail network towards its border with Burma. From there just 218 miles of missing track stands in the way of an overland rail journey from London to Singapore.
Under a UN-sponsored scheme, Pakistan and Iran will link up their lines in the coming months to join the sub-continent's track to that of Europe for the first time. The UN said the link would open up new trade routes within Asia and give the former Soviet republics of central Asia rail access to Iran's strategic seaport at Bandar Abbas on the Gulf.
The route was extended when the Calcutta to Dhaka line reopened earlier this month, more than 40 years after it was blocked during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965.
Last week, senior Indian officials met their Iranian counterparts in Tehran to discuss the progress so far made in the rail network.
The prospect has caused excitement among Britain's rail enthusiasts. Mark Smith, whose website Seat61.com promotes rail adventures around the world, was planning his first London to Dhaka itinerary. His trip incorporates the Eurostar to Brussels, breakfast in Vienna and onward trains to Istanbul, where travelers must take the ferry across the Bosporus linking Europe with Asia.
The ferry will eventually be replaced by an underground tunnel, but for now passengers will be able to enjoy views of the Aya Sofya and Topkapi Palace.
China, a big supporter of the project, is spending billions on extending rail lines to its Burmese border. Trans-Asia railway sources said the only barrier to eventually connecting London to Yunnan province and Singapore was Burma's military regime, whose poor human rights record means that no foreign funding is available to rebuild its railways.
